While  Billy the Kid may never have had an encounter with an alien during his  lifetime (or did he?), I hope that this adventure will convey enough of  the Kid’s historical surroundings and events in the guise of a Western  alien fiasco that young readers will want to learn more about real  history. There are many events in this story that really happened  (perhaps without an alien present) – see if you can find these  “historical Easter eggs” throughout the book!Another possible point  of deviation in this book: throughout the story, you’ll see endnote  citations. Good history is all about documentation. Using endnotes in  this book for young readers will, I hope, teach them at an early stage  about the usefulness of source-checking and research integrity. Each  endnote will provide some of the actual history behind the events in the  story.

Above all, it is my hope that this story brings you joy  while you see Billy ride one more time, forever young in our hearts and  minds, into that beautiful New Mexican sunset.
